Minimally Invasive Relief for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
If you're suffering from numbness, tingling, or weakness in your hand due to carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), you now have access to a modern, minimally invasive solution. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release?
It’s a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that uses ultrasound imaging to guide the release of the transverse carpal ligament, relieving pressure on the median nerve.
Is it painful?
No. It’s performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia depending on the patient’s preference. Most patients report minimal discomfort and a quick return to normal activities. Typically over the counter pain medication (ibuprofen and Tylenol) are adequate to manage post-operative pain
How long does the surgery take? The actual surgical procedure takes 10 to 15 minutes. The whole appointment is usually 60 minutes if performed in the office in approximate 2 hours if performed in a surgical center.
How long does recovery take?
Many patients return to light activities within 1–3 days, with full recovery in just a few weeks — much faster than traditional open surgery. The exception to this is when there is severe nerve damage present. It can take many months or even a year for nerve recovery to take place when there is significant nerve damage
Will I need stitches after the procedure?
No stitches are needed. The incision is very small and typically closed with a simple adhesive bandage.
Is this procedure right for me?
If you’ve been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome and are seeking a fast, low-pain option without sedation, this could be ideal. Dr. English can help determine if you're a candidate.
